DGS Applications Scientist

Graphene processing, to formulation and applications

Report to: CEO

Direct Reports: 0 rising to 3 or 4 technicians

Remuneration: Competitive

Term:  Full Time

Location: Wilton, Teesside

The Role:

This is a challenging and exciting role in a cutting edge technology company seeking to become the world’s leading supplier of high quality graphene.

The person will work with the high degree of autonomy and dedication required for a small spinout company with very high growth potential.  The individual will be expected to grow with DGS and become the key member of staff responsible for the processing and formulation of graphene ready for incorporation into products.

From first appointment they will work closely with the Company Founder (Dr. Karl Coleman) and the Process Engineering Manager, and will be:

*Responsible for processing of graphene produced from the test-bed facility housed at the Durham University science site, but which will eventually be relocated to Wilton.
*Responsible for the formulation of graphene in line with safety requirements and customer orders.
*Expected to liaise with customers and potential customers regarding application requirements.
*Expected to develop new potential applications of graphene.
*Responsible for quality control of all DGS graphene.

When the pilot plant is established they will be:

*Responsible for the large-scale processing of DGS Graphene in line with safety requirements and customer orders.
*Expected to improve processing methodology, minimising waste and all materials costs.
*Expected to liaise and identify potential R&D partners on graphene utilisation and application requirements.
*Responsible for developing new graphene formulations to match R&D partners and customer needs.

As the business grows they will:

*Be responsible for expanding the product line of DGS.

*Ensure that DGS’s product portfolio serves the needs of its customers.

The Candidate:

The candidate should have:

*Strong enthusiasm for, and dedication to, DGS and its aims.
*Experience of working in a research-intensive environment.
*An honours degree in chemistry (or closely related subject) with hands-on industrial experience, or alternatively a PhD in chemistry.
*Experience of formulation chemistry (desirable).
*Good interpersonal and project management skills and be able to adapt as the company develops.
